On 13 February 1976, General Muhammed was on his way to his office. H took his regular route on George Road. That morning, his Mercedes-Benz car drove in a slow manner in the notorious Lagos traffic beside the Federal Secretariat at Ikoyi in Lagos, some soldiers under the leadership of Lt. Col. Bukar Suwa Dimka, driving from a fuel station, attacked the vehicle and assassinated Muhammed.
