- 3 September 2026 External reserves reach $54.08 billion, highest since 2008 — Central Bank of Nigeria data put gross external reserves at $54.08 billion on 3 September 2026, the highest level since December 2008 and roughly $3 billion above the bank's own year-end projection. - 31 August 2026 Economy grows 4.43% in the second quarter of 2026 — The National Bureau of Statistics put real GDP growth at 4.43% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, up from 3.89% in the first quarter and the fastest quarterly expansion in five years. - 28 August 2026 National Population Commission chairman Aminu Yusuf dies in office — Dr. Aminu Yusuf, Chairman of the National Population Commission since December 2025, died in Abuja on 28 August 2026 at the age of 66. The commission confirmed the death in a statement. He was its eighth substantive chairman and had served about eight months; no successor had been named as of early September 2026. (Leadership)
- 27 August 2026 Abel Enitan takes office as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation — Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, until then Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, was sworn in as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation on 27 August 2026. He succeeded Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who retired the same day on reaching the statutory age of 60 after two years in the office. (State House)
- 18 August 2026 Inflation eases to 15.43% in July as food prices climb — The National Bureau of Statistics reported headline inflation of 15.43% year-on-year in July 2026, down from 15.91% in June and 24.94% a year earlier. - 16 August 2026 Adeleke re-elected Osun governor on Accord platform — INEC declared incumbent Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party winner of the 15 August Osun governorship election with 511,067 votes, defeating Bola Oyebamiji (APC, 444,815) and Najeem Salaam (ADC, 17,180).
