About CurrentAffairs.ng
CurrentAffairs.ng is an independent Nigerian reference site for current affairs and civic data: the officeholders, states, local government areas, dates and figures that examination candidates are asked to recall. It was founded in August 2023 by Awajiowa Ibotile and is edited from Nigeria. This page sets out who checks the facts, how a fact earns its place on the site, how often the data is re-verified, and how to report an error.
Who verifies the facts
The site is run by a small editorial team led by its founder, Awajiowa Ibotile (on X as @iamawajis). The team maintains the officeholder tables, the 774-LGA directory, the question bank and the quiz the way an almanac editor would: every entry is a record with a source and a verification date, not a news story. Readers, teachers and researchers who write in with a source are credited in the correction log.
The two-source rule
No fact enters the site on a single report. A name, date or figure is published only when two independent references agree — an official source (the National Assembly, INEC, the National Bureau of Statistics, the Central Bank of Nigeria, a state government website, a recruitment portal) and at least one further independent confirmation. Where only one source exists, the page says so, and where sources conflict the entry is held back rather than guessed. Recruitment statuses are taken only from the services’ own portals, never from social media.
How often the data is re-checked
- Volatile facts (ministers, service chiefs, agency heads, the exchange rate, inflation, the monetary policy rate and similar) sit in a ledger that is re-verified every month; the last full pass was completed on 28 October 2026.
- Officeholder tables (governors, senators, representatives, ministers) are updated when a seat changes hands — by-elections, defections, appointments and resignations — and the affected pages record the new verification date.
- Reference data (states, capitals, slogans, the 774 local government areas and their headquarters) is re-verified in full periodically; the LGA directory was last swept end-to-end in August 2026.
- Latest Developments on the homepage are refreshed every few weeks and always carry a source link.
- Quiz answer keys are checked question by question; the last full sweep was on 1 November 2026.
Every data page shows a Verified · updated date, and the same date is published in the page’s structured data and the XML sitemap, so search engines and AI systems see the real freshness of each dataset. A date moves only when a record actually changes.
Corrections
If an entry is wrong — an outdated officeholder, a misspelt name, a wrong date, a broken link — use the Report an error form on the page concerned or the contact form, ideally with a source. Every report is logged, checked against primary sources and, when confirmed, corrected on every page where the fact appears; the page’s updated date then reflects the change. The team aims to respond within two working days.
Reuse and attribution
