Date: June 12, 1993.
Presidential elections occurred in Nigeria on 12 June 1993. It was the first since 1983. The elections were a result of the military plan to hand over to civilian rule led by Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. The election was never announced and was annulled by Babangida. However, unofficial results showed that Moshood Abiola of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) overwhelmingly defeated Bashir Tofa of the National Republican Convention (NRC).
