About Hon. Benjamin Kalu
Benjamin Kalu has been Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives since 13 June 2023, when the 10th National Assembly elected its presiding officers at inauguration. He represents Bende federal constituency, Abia State, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, a seat he first won at the 2019 general election and retained in 2023.
Kalu was born on 5 May 1971 in Bende Local Government Area. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in law from the University of Calabar and a Master of Business Administration from Oxford Brookes University. Before entering the National Assembly he served as transition chairman of Bende Local Government Area and as a senior special adviser on local government and chieftaincy affairs to Theodore Orji, then governor of Abia State. He was spokesman of the House in the 9th Assembly.
As of August 2026, Kalu remains Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
