Ikenga Ugochinyere represents Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency, Imo State, in the House of Representatives, sitting with the Peoples Democratic Party. He won the seat at the 2023 general election, defeating the Labour Party and All Progressives Congress candidates, and was sworn in with the 10th Assembly in June 2023. He chairs the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream).
Before his election he was Special Assistant to Bukola Saraki as President of the Senate, a president of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, and spokesman in Imo State for the Coalition of United Political Parties. An election petition tribunal ruled in September 2023 that the PDP had not validly nominated him and ordered a supplementary poll; the Court of Appeal reversed that decision on 8 November 2023, holding that the tribunal lacked jurisdiction over a pre-election matter.
As of August 2026 he remains member for Ideato North/Ideato South.
