He won the seat at the February 2023 general election on the platform of the Labour Party; an election petition tribunal nullified his return, and the Court of Appeal reversed that ruling and affirmed his election.
Born on 12 June 1988, Umeha left the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress in mid-2025, joining the party alongside a large group of Enugu defectors and afterwards speaking in support of the federal administration's engagement with the South East.
As of August 2026 he sits as an APC member for Ezeagu/Udi.
