Umar Yusuf Yabo represents Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency of Sokoto State in the House of Representatives, sitting with the African Democratic Congress. He took the seat after winning a court-ordered rerun in the constituency on 3 February 2024, standing then for the Peoples Democratic Party; his return was affirmed by the Court of Appeal in August 2024.
Yabo moved to the ADC in the wave of defections reported at the National Assembly in April 2026, when about thirty members changed parties. His constituency work has been reported around feeder roads, schools and boreholes, and seasonal distributions of motorcycles, sewing machines and Ramadan relief items.
