About Senator Abbas Aminu Iya
Abbas Aminu Iya has represented Adamawa Central in the Nigerian Senate since 13 June 2023, when the 10th National Assembly was inaugurated. He was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and is serving his first term in the upper chamber.
A chartered accountant by training, Abbas holds a degree in accounting and a master's in treasury management from Bayero University Kano, and worked earlier in his career at KPMG, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Nigeria LNG. He sat in the Adamawa State House of Assembly for the Uba/Gaya constituency (2011–2015 and 2019–2023) and was Speaker of that Assembly from June 2019 until June 2023.
Since 8 August 2023 he has chaired the Senate Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation. As of August 2026 he remains a PDP senator for Adamawa Central.
