Abdul'aziz Abubakar Yari has been Senator for Zamfara West since 13 June 2023, elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. He succeeded Lawali Hassan Anka in the seat and is serving his first term in the Senate.
Yari was the fourth Governor of Zamfara State, serving two terms from 29 May 2011 to 29 May 2019. He holds the traditional title of Marafan Sokoto.
In August 2026 Yari was named Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election.
