Ibrahim Lamido has represented Sokoto East Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate since 13 June 2023, when the 10th National Assembly was inaugurated. He won the seat for the All Progressives Congress at the 2023 general election, which in Sokoto was concluded at supplementary polls in April 2023, succeeding Abdullahi Ibrahim Gobir, who left the district to contest the Sokoto State governorship.
In the Senate, Lamido chairs the Committee on Primary Health Care Development and Disease Control. He resigned from the APC in a letter dated 22 April 2026, citing persistent divisions within the state party, and announced on 24 April 2026 that he had joined the African Democratic Congress, attributing the move to banditry in his district. In May 2026 he said he would not seek re-election in 2027.
As of August 2026, Lamido holds the Sokoto East seat as an ADC senator.
