About Senator Aliyu Wamakko
Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko is the Senator for Sokoto North, Sokoto State, and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). First elected to the Senate in 2015, he has served in the 8th, 9th and 10th National Assemblies and was returned for a third term in the general election of 25 February 2023.
Born on 1 March 1953, Wamakko was Governor of Sokoto State for two terms (2007-2015) and, before that, Deputy Governor from 1999 to 2006 under Attahiru Bafarawa. His earlier public service included chairmanship of Sokoto Local Government Council in 1986-1987 and senior administrative posts in the state civil service. He moved from the All Nigeria Peoples Party to the Peoples Democratic Party and then to the APC on its formation ahead of the 2015 elections.
As of August 2026 Wamakko remains one of the APC's senior figures in the North West.
