About Senator Aminu Tambuwal

Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is the Senator for Sokoto South, Sokoto State, elected in the general election of 25 February 2023 and sworn in with the 10th National Assembly on 13 June 2023. It is his first term in the Senate.

Born on 11 January 1966, Tambuwal was Governor of Sokoto State from 29 May 2015 to 29 May 2023 and Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015, having represented Tambuwal/Kebbe federal constituency from 2003. A lawyer by training, he moved through the All Nigeria Peoples Party (2003-2007), the Peoples Democratic Party (2007-2014), the All Progressives Congress (2014-2018) and back to the PDP in 2018.

As of August 2026 Tambuwal's party affiliation is in flux, with reporting placing him in the African Democratic Congress.
