Bassey Aniekan Etim, generally styled Aniekan Bassey, has represented Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District since 13 June 2023, having won the seat at the February 2023 general election. He is serving a first term in the Senate.
Before his election Bassey was the seventh Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, a chamber he entered in 2015 as the member for Uruan State Constituency and led until 2023. In that period he was vice-chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria and chairman of the South-South Speakers Forum. In the 10th Senate he serves as deputy chairman of the Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development.
As of August 2026 he remains the sitting senator for the district.
