David Yusuf Jimkuta represents Taraba South in the Nigerian Senate, taking his seat at the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly on 13 June 2023 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. He is serving a first term.
Jimkuta reached the ballot only after litigation: he won the APC senatorial primary with 170 votes to Danjuma Shiddi's 70, but the party submitted Shiddi's name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the Court of Appeal later nullified that substitution and affirmed Jimkuta as the lawful candidate. In the February 2023 election he polled 85,415 votes against 45,708 for the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, then Taraba State governor Darius Ishaku — one of the cycle's larger upsets. The APC announced his expulsion for alleged anti-party activities on 8 April 2023, weeks after the poll.
As of August 2026, Jimkuta sits with the APC caucus in the Senate.
