Asuquo Ekpenyong represents Cross River South in the Senate, taking office in June 2023 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. He is serving a first term, having won the APC primary in May 2022 with 347 of 351 accredited votes and succeeded Gershom Bassey. On 8 August 2023 he was named chairman of the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission.
Born on 25 August 1985 in Eniong Abatim, Odukpani, Ekpenyong was educated at King's College, Lagos, and read economics at the University of Reading, adding a master's degree in international banking and financial services in 2008. He was appointed Cross River State Commissioner for Finance in November 2015, serving until March 2022, and briefly held the transport and marine services portfolio (2018–2019). He joined the APC in 2021.
