Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi represents Imo East in the Senate on the platform of the Labour Party, returning for a second term at the 2023 general election with 100,631 votes against 87,229 for Uche Onyeagocha. He first won the seat in 2019 as a Peoples Democratic Party candidate, and moved to the Labour Party after losing the 2022 PDP primary to Onyeagocha.
Born on 2 April 1968 in Orji, Owerri North, Onyewuchi holds a bachelor's degree and an MBA from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a master's in public policy from SOAS, University of London. He was a member of the House of Representatives for Owerri Municipal/North/West from 2011 to 2019 and chaired its Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity from 2015. In the 10th Senate he chairs the Committee on NASENI; a NASENI skills acquisition centre he facilitated was commissioned in Owerri on 22 July 2026.
