Otunba Gbenga Daniel has represented Ogun East in the Nigerian Senate since 13 June 2023, elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. On 8 August 2023 he was named chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy in the 10th Assembly.
Daniel, born 6 April 1956, was Governor of Ogun State for two terms, from 29 May 2003 to 29 May 2011. An engineer and industrialist by background, he belonged to the Peoples Democratic Party from 1998 to 2019, led Goodluck Jonathan's 2010 campaign in the South West, withdrew from the PDP national chairmanship race in 2017 and served as director-general of Atiku Abubakar's 2018 presidential campaign. He joined the APC in February 2021.
As of August 2026 Daniel remains senator for Ogun East.
