Kaka Shehu Lawan is the Senator for Borno Central, Borno State, sitting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was elected in the February 2023 general election and took his seat when the 10th National Assembly was inaugurated on 13 June 2023, succeeding Kashim Shettima, who had vacated the district to run as the APC vice-presidential candidate. Lawan's return was affirmed by the courts in rulings delivered in September and November 2023.
Lawan served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Borno State before entering the Senate. He contested the 2023 election against Mohammed Umara Kumalia of the Peoples Democratic Party, a former member of the House of Representatives.
As of August 2026, Lawan is serving his first term, which runs to 2027.
