Mohammed Tahir Monguno is the Senator for Borno North, Borno State, and has been Chief Whip of the 10th Senate since 17 July 2024, when he replaced Ali Ndume in the post. A member of the All Progressives Congress, he was born on 12 February 1966 in Monguno and won the Borno North seat at the 2023 general election, entering the Senate in June 2023.
A lawyer, Monguno took his law degree at the University of Maiduguri in 1989 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990. He was Borno State Commissioner for Justice from 2003 to 2005 and represented the Marte/Monguno/Nganzai federal constituency in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2023, serving as House Chief Whip from 2019 to 2023 and chairing the ad hoc committee on the Petroleum Industry Bill.
