About Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar
Sadiq Suleiman Umar has represented the Kwara North senatorial district since June 2019 and was returned for a second term at the 25 February 2023 election on the All Progressives Congress platform, taking roughly 74 per cent of the vote. The district covers the Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, Moro and Patigi local government areas.
Born in June 1970 in Kaiama, Umar holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and a master's in disaster risk management and development studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He spent about two decades on health programmes funded by DFID and USAID, rising to technical director for West Africa at Axios International.
Umar chaired the Senate Committee on Rules and Business in the 9th Assembly (2019–2023) and has chaired the Committee on Trade and Investment in the 10th Senate; he was named chairman of Rules and Business again in May 2025.
