Udende Memsa Emmanuel has represented Benue North East Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate since 13 June 2023, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. He polled 141,405 votes at the election of 25 February 2023 to defeat the incumbent, former Benue State governor Gabriel Suswam of the Peoples Democratic Party. An election tribunal initially ruled against him, but the Court of Appeal set that judgment aside and affirmed his return.
Udende was elected to the House of Representatives for the Ukum/Katsina-Ala/Logo federal constituency in 2011 on the PDP platform and re-elected in 2015, joining the APC in 2016; he did not return to the chamber in 2019. In the 10th Senate he chairs the Committee on Anti-Corruption and is deputy chairman of the Committee on Privatisation.
