Jonathan Gaza Gbefwi represents Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency of Nasarawa State in the House of Representatives on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He won the seat at the February 2023 general election, one of the few SDP victories in the chamber, and was sworn in with the 10th National Assembly on 13 June 2023.
Gbefwi had left the All Progressives Congress for the SDP in June 2022, defecting alongside Senator Ahmed Wadada and a large body of Nasarawa supporters.
In late May 2026 he emerged as the Labour Party's candidate for the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship, with Labaran Maku taking the party's senatorial ticket.
