Godiya Akwashiki has represented Nasarawa North in the Nigerian Senate since 2019 and is serving a second term, won at the general election of 25 February 2023 on the platform of the Social Democratic Party. On 8 August 2023 he was appointed chairman of the Senate Committee on Air Force in the 10th Assembly.
Born 3 August 1973, Akwashiki sat in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2019, as majority leader in his first term and deputy speaker in his second. He first entered the Senate in 2019 as an All Progressives Congress candidate and chaired the Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs in the 9th Senate. He withdrew from the APC senatorial primary in May 2022 and defected to the SDP in July 2022 to secure that party's nomination for re-election.
