About Senator Lere Oyewumi
Lere Oyewumi is the Senator for Osun West, Osun State, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He won the 25 February 2023 election with 138,476 votes and was sworn in with the 10th National Assembly on 13 June 2023. He serves as Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate.
Oyewumi began his career as a teacher at Federal Government Girls' College, New Bussa, and later worked as an education officer in the Federal Ministry of Education. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1992 during the Third Republic on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, chaired Irewole Local Government Area from 2004 to 2011, and afterwards served as a Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission.
As of August 2026 he is serving his first Senate term, which runs to 2027.
