Aba Women’s Riot

The Aba Women’s War of 1929 was a series of riots that began in pre-independent Nigeria. It started in November 1929. The riots sprang up when a large number of women from the Bende District, Umuahia and other towns in Nigeria journeyed to Oloko to air their grievances against the Warrant Chiefs. They complained about taxation and lack of opportunity for women.
