Former President Muhammadu Buhari Dies

Former President Muhammadu Buhari died on 13 July 2025 at a clinic in London, United Kingdom, at the age of 82, after a prolonged illness. He was buried on 15 July 2025 at his family home in Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites, with President Bola Tinubu declaring a period of national mourning. Buhari led Nigeria twice: as military head of state from December 1983 to August 1985 after a coup, and as a democratically elected president for two terms from 2015 to 2023. His 2015 victory over incumbent Goodluck Jonathan was the first time an opposition candidate defeated a sitting Nigerian president at the polls.
