Nigeria Admitted to BRICS

On January 17, 2025, Brazil formally announced Nigeria’s admission as a partner country of the BRICS bloc. Nigeria became the ninth BRICS partner country, joining Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan.
As a partner country, Nigeria can participate in certain BRICS activities and gain access to the New Development Bank, which offers loans in local currencies as an alternative to the World Bank and IMF.
