Tinubu’s Historic UK State Visit
Date: March 18, 2026
President Bola Tinubu embarked on a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom on 18–19 March 2026, the first by a Nigerian head of state since General Ibrahim Babangida’s visit in 1989. King Charles III hosted Tinubu at Windsor Castle with full ceremonial honours, including a state banquet and carriage procession.
The visit yielded a GBP 746 million deal for the modernisation of Lagos’s Apapa and Tin Can Island ports, a migration and security memorandum of understanding, and expanded business visa access for Nigerians. Tinubu also addressed the UK Parliament and met with British Prime Minister during the visit.
