About Senator Emmanuel Nwachukwu
Emmanuel Chibuzor Nwachukwu represents Anambra South in the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, having assumed office on 8 October 2025. He won the by-election held after the death of Ifeanyi Ubah, who had held the seat from 2019 until 26 July 2024; INEC declared him winner on 16 August 2025 with 90,408 votes to 19,812 for the All Progressives Congress candidate.
An accountant, Nwachukwu graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1987 and worked in banking, investment, oil and gas and telecommunications before entering politics. He was president-general of the Ukpor Improvement Union from 2017 to 2020 and holds the title Onodugo Ukpor. He lost the 2023 APGA senatorial primary for the district by three votes, then won the party's primary for the by-election in July 2025.
