Orji Uzor Kalu represents Abia North Senatorial District, Abia State, in the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. He first took the seat on 11 June 2019, defeating the incumbent Mao Ohuabunwa, and returned for a second term with the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly in June 2023.
Before entering the Senate, Kalu was Governor of Abia State for two terms, from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. In the 9th Senate he served as Senate Chief Whip from 2 July 2019 until June 2023. When the 10th Senate constituted its standing committees in August 2023, he was named chairman of the Committee on Privatisation.
As of August 2026, Kalu remains the senator for Abia North.
