  • 9 October 2026 INEC begins nationwide PVC collection as voter register passes 103 million — INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan said the cleaned National Register of Voters now exceeds 103 million after the three-phase Continuous Voter Registration added 10,772,421 new registrants. Nationwide collection of Permanent Voter Cards began on Friday 9 October, with the preliminary register on display from 9 to 15 October for claims and objections. (Premium Times)
  • 5 October 2026 Nigerian Air Force ATR 42 crashes in Ondo State, killing all 25 on board — The aircraft, flying from Benin to Lagos with five crew and 20 passengers, went down in a swamp near Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area at about 9:13 am. President Bola Tinubu declared three days of national mourning and ordered an investigation; the Air Force is searching for the flight recorders and no cause has been established. (The Guardian)
  • 1 October 2026 Tinubu's 66th Independence Day broadcast: "From Reform to Prosperity" — In his Independence Day speech, President Bola Tinubu said "the age of reform has done its work" and named the cost of living, jobs and local production as the next priorities.   • 24 September 2026 Supreme Court restores Electoral Act 2026 provisions on party registers and primaries — A seven-member panel led by Justice Adamu Jauro unanimously allowed INEC's appeal against the Zenith Labour Party, holding that sections 77(5)-(7) and 84(2) on party membership registers and direct primaries or consensus nomination do not conflict with the 1999 Constitution.   • 24 September 2026 NECO releases 2026 SSCE results: 58.67% earn five credits including English and Mathematics — Registrar Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi announced in Minna that 1,162,118 candidates (84.70%) obtained five credits in any subjects and 804,948 (58.67%) did so including English Language and Mathematics.
