Seyi Sowunmi represents Ojo federal constituency of Lagos State in the 10th House of Representatives on the platform of the Labour Party, having won the seat at the February 2023 general election in one of the party's Lagos gains that year.

In August 2023 Sowunmi was named deputy chairman of the House Committee on Local Content. He has run constituency welfare distributions in Ojo, including an end-of-year programme in December 2024, and in November 2025 raised the delayed payment of stipends to trainees under the federal technical and vocational education scheme. A Labour Party local government structure announced a three-month suspension of him in August 2024 over an internal discipline complaint.

As of August 2026 Sowunmi remains the member for Ojo.
