Simon Bako Lalong has represented Plateau South in the Nigerian Senate on the All Progressives Congress platform since 20 December 2023, when he was sworn in at plenary. He took the seat after the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, ruled on 7 November 2023 that a tribunal judgment nullifying the election of the Peoples Democratic Party's Napoleon Bali should stand, and declared Lalong winner of the February 2023 poll.
Lalong was Governor of Plateau State from 2015–2023 and Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly from 2000–2007. He was appointed Minister of Labour and Employment in August 2023 and resigned the portfolio in December 2023 in order to take up the Senate seat.
As of August 2026, Lalong remains Senator for Plateau South.
